Chocolate Snowman

This is my first time painting with acrylic. I think acrylics are easier to handle than watercolors.

I'm stuck!!!!

I hope you all are enjoying wonderful holidays! As for me...I AM FRUSTRATED! I am o.k. with "spot" illustrations but not so good with drawing landscapes. I cannot move on to the painting phase of my first landscape sketch for children until it has been critiqued.

"FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION"

Read this full post at Dan Santat's blog:

"Fantasy artist do more fantasy art books than they
do cute puppy books. Cute princess artists don't usually find themselves illustrating X-Men covers. It's because their work is more conducive to a certain market than
others

So how does this relate to my style?

Well, for one, I stopped pursuing a style. I just painted what interested
me and I created things the way everything was perceived in my mind.

The problem at hand was that I wanted to illustrate children's books and so
my portfolio had to cater to that.

Form follows function.

I started from scratch. I just drew the way I drew things. I stopped
looking at other peoples work and denied my brain of any kind of inspiration. I
just sat down at my desk with a blank piece of illustration board and told
myself that I would make a brand new children's portfolio one piece at a time
and I wouldn't stop on any of the pieced until I was proud enough to hang each
one on my wall. I painted dogs, robots, kids, and all sorts of stuff that
children's book art directors would be looking for in a portfolio and best of all was that I loved painting all these things."

London Art College assignment

I will have the completed line drawing to this sketch within the next week. I found this awesome illustrator who has an art process that I plan to complete this project with. Drawing landscapes and telling stories with pictures is not something that I have practiced in the past but my goal is to continue to stretch myself. (This is an incomplete sketch. All critiques are welcome.)

Winter Activities: My Process

This is what I posted for the "Winter Activities" at WaWe.

I learned something very valuable last week. What I learned is that "masterpieces" do not happen overnight. Great movies like "Live Free, Die Hard" were re-written over and over (more than 5 times) before the screen-writers were satisfied with the end result. Developing art is often the same way: it's a process.

Normally, I get stuck at this stage of my "process". My line drawings are decent but I have some sort of artistic ADHD and never get around to painting my completed line drawings. And that's what makes 2011 different: among other goals, I plan to paint more.

2011: My Best Year Ever!!!!

Hello everyone out there in Blog Land. Another year has passed and I am here to get the most out of it.

In 2010 I have grown as an artist. I am looking forward to more growth in 2011 and there are so many opportunities to stretch myself. I absolutely refuse to not take advantage of those experiences.

I have my goals written down and I am looking to add more to the list. Contrary to popular belief, money is not our most valuable asset. Money can be saved and there are many ways to "create" more once it has been spent. But TIME is indeed our most precious and valuable asset because TIME can not be saved nor can it be created. Unlike money, once time is spent we cannot get it back. So, let's make the most of it and start living our dreams!!!
